John Glenn: First American to Orbit the Earth On the morning of February 20, 1962, millions of Americans collectively held their breath as the world’s newest pioneer swept across the threshold of one of man’s last frontiers. The International Space Station was a cramped, humid, puny three rooms when the first crew moved in. Twenty years and 241 visitors later, the complex has a lookout tower, three toilets, six.

The Avionics team designs and builds LauncherOne’s flight computer — or its brain — and the rest of its neural system, including the control boxes that distribute power, control the engines, monitor the health of instrumentation, and more.

SEIT

The Systems Engineering, Integration and Test team's responsibilities range from flight sciences and systems engineering to creating the software that manages the rocket’s sensors, navigation and communication.

Production

The Production team lives on the cutting edge, utilizing the most advanced industrial manufacturing techniques to maximize rocket output. On our shop floor, we actively experiment with new kinds of materials, robotic automation, 3D printing, and more.

Launch

The Launch team tests and operates both the LauncherOne rocket and our 747 carrier aircraft, Cosmic Girl. The Launch team works closely with every other department — helping to design structures and avionics systems, as well as more efficient testing processes.

Propulsion

The Propulsion team designs, develops and tests the Newton family of engines that lift LauncherOne into orbit.

Structures

The Structures team spearheads design and development of LauncherOne’s skeleton from tip to tail. Their innovation keeps the rocket super lightweight but strong enough to survive the dynamic forces of orbital flight.

Accounting & Finance

Responsible finance is often a difficult challenge for startups, especially in aerospace. Our Accounting team keeps us on track when it comes to taxes, billing, payroll and more.
