Netflix is a boon to mankind. Every time I am getting bored and don’t know what to do in my free time, which is most of the time, it shines like a beacon of hope. Netflix knows what I like better than my friends do and while it is all fun and dandy, there are occasional errors that can ruin the experience. One such error causes Netflix to not work on the Chrome browser.

Netflix throws up errors every now and then and it can be a real pain to understand what they mean and how to resolve them. This is why today I will discuss 6 common Netflix Chrome errors and how to fix them. Let’s begin.

Chrome

1. Netflix Error Code C7053-1803

This is one of the more common Netflix error codes. It appears when Netflix is not able to refresh the data that is stored locally in your Chrome browser and is forced to use old data. To resolve this error code, follow the steps below.

Type chrome://settings in the URL or hit the menu icon and click on Settings.

Scroll to the bottom of the page to find the Advanced option.

Again, scroll to the bottom of the page to find the Reset clean up option. Select Restore settings to their defaults.

You will see a popup with a warning that says you will lose your pinned tabs, startup pages, search engine preference, and it will delete all temporary data. Bookmarks and other saved data will remain untouched, so nothing to worry about there.

Click on Reset Settings. Now go back and launch Netflix to check whether the issue has been resolved.

Note that all the extensions will be disabled but you can always enable them again.

2. Unexpected Error Code

This is when Netflix doesn’t know what the hell is happening and throws up this:

There was an unexpected error. Please reload the page and try again.

Open chrome://settings/clearBrowserData in a separate tab. This URL will open the cache options.

You will see a popup. Select Time range as All time and select Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files. Click Clear Data.

Note that when you clear cookies and site data, you will automatically be signed out of all the sites. If you have any unsaved work, I suggest save it and finish what you were doing before doing this step.

Go back to Netflix and sign back in. It should be working now.

3. Chrome Version

It may be possible that a newer version of Chrome is available and you are still rocking an old one. Enter chrome://version/ in the URL in a separate tab to check Chrome's current version.

How do you update Google Chrome or even know whether you are using the latest stable version or not? Simple. Just click on the menu icon (3 vertical dots) on the upper right corner of your tab and look for Update Google Chrome option.

Can’t see that option in the above screenshot? This means I am already on the latest version of Chrome. The update icon will present itself only when needed.

If the icon is present, click on it to update your Chrome browser. All your open tabs and windows will be saved and open again when the browser reboots, but you may lose some data so save your work before moving on.

4. Go Incognito

One of the things that make Chrome so amazing is the extensions. Some of them, like LastPass and Pocket, are a lifesaver. But some of them may also interfere with other services resulting in broken services.

The fastest way to check whether an extension is causing trouble is the incognito mode. By default, pretty much all the extensions are disabled in this mode.

While inside Chrome, press CTRL+SHIFT+N to open a new Chrome window in incognito mode. In my case, all the extensions except LastPass were disabled.

Now launch Netflix in the incognito window to see if the problem persists. If it doesn’t, you will have to disable all the extensions and enable them back again one by one to see which one is the culprit. There is no other way. Is Netflix still not working on Chrome?

5. Malware Issues

Malware attacks can be a nightmare. While there are many third-party software to remove malware, not many people know that Google Chrome comes with a malware remover tool built-in.

Click on the menu button on the upper right corner of your screen and go to Settings or enter chrome://settings/ in the URL and hit enter. Just like before, scroll to the bottom of the screen and click on Advanced option.

Under Reset and clean up, you will find Clean up computer option.

Google will help you Find and remove harmful software on your computer that might be conflicting with Chrome. Click on the Find button in blue color.

Google will now begin checking for harmful software on your PC and may ask you to remove some of the installed programs. If it does find something, remove it and see if Netflix works now.

6. Blank Screen Error

Sometimes, Netflix simply draws a blank. The popular streaming service will show a blank screen with a red loading icon that will keep moving in circles, for what appears to be, forever.

Initially, you will wait for your episode to load but soon enough, you will realize that it is not a slow Internet connection that is causing this issue. It’s a strange error of the third kind!

Netflix Party

Here is a fast (read odd) solution that will quickly let you continue with watching Black Mirror from where you left. Open Firefox or Edge browser, copy the URL of the show/movie that you were watching and paste it directly back into Chrome. You should be able to resume from where you left.

7. Clear Cache and Data

Clearing Chrome browser cache and data can fix a lot of site-related problems including the one where Netflix is not working in Chrome. There are two ways to clear browser cache and data but one of them is quick and easy. That shouldn't take more than a few moments to get Netflix working in Chrome again.
