Teotihuacan, Mexico. 200 - 800 AD. Pre-Aztec Teotihuanaca Artifacts for Sale
Teotihuacan was called the 'City of the Gods' - the sacred Precolumbian metropolis outside Mexico City. It was known by later cultures such as the Mayans and Aztecs as the City of the Gods - the place of their ancestors which was revered for centuries after its decline.

Among the below offerings are items from the private collection of Professor Hasso Von Winning (1914 - 2001), the German Archaeologist responsible for the Discovery of much of the ancient city of Teotihuacan. Upon his death, his private collection went to auction. Now available are some of his prized figurines.

All of these Pre-Columbian artifacts were legally and ethically acquired, coming from old American and European collections, museum deaccessions and auctions throughout the US and Europe prior to UNESCO and subsequent international trade laws. Every item is painstakingly screened for authenticity and legality. Provenance is not always listed in every item description due to restricted space, but is provided on the certificate of authenticity that accompanies each item. Enjoy!

Teotihuacan, c. 200 - 800 AD. Very nice mold-made ceramic figure, with a triangular-shaped body lacking limbs, small breasts and extremely well detailed head wearing a thick collar and elaborate headdress. Perforated horizontally at the shoulders and near the base. H: 2 3/8' (6.1 cm). Intact with much remaining original red pigmentation. Teotihuacan, c. 400 – 650 AD. Excellent Teotihuacan candelero from Mexico. Xolalpan type double-chambered incense burner, decorated with a burnished rim and linear designs. Intact, with good mineral deposits. Two deep chambers, with 4 holes on sides, find site information/catalog number inscribed on the bottom as 'Teotihuacan Mequixco 1068'. 3' (76 mm) wide. Teotihuacan, c. 300 – 400 AD. A fine Teotihuacan tripod dish from Mexico. Late Tlamimilolpa type which stands on the characteristic trio of nubbin feet. The rim is widely flared and there are find site notations on the bottom reading “RR/JR-12/2075”. Intact, with strong mineral deposits. 4 1/4” (10.8cm) in diameter. Cf. Teotihuacan, Mexico, c. 300 - 400 AD. Beautiful Teotihuacan tripod bowl. Tlamimilolpa type, with flared rims and standing on the characteristic trio of nubbin legs. Nicely burnished with great color. Strong mineral deposits. W: 12 cm (4 3/4'). Nicely preserved, light repair (piece of rim reattached). No restoration. Find site notations in ink on the bottom reading 'PP/JA-12/2076'. Teotihuacan 'tooth pot' from Mexico, c. 300 BC (Proto-Teotihuacan) to 700 AD. Dia: 2 7/8'; H: 2 1/2'. The item is a religious container which had teeth fragments inside upon excavation (kept by the museum). The item is clay with rectangular designs on the outside. There is a broken area on the base. This type of clay is often referred to as 'plumbate' because of various properties of the clay including its hardness and high temperature firing, plus the smoothness and coloring of such clay, often caused the item to crack on firing. ref: A similar container can be seen in 'Pre-Columbian Art of Mexico and Central America' by Hasso Von Winning, page 311, illustrates: 421.
